Snap! Snap! Mobile Phone Detection Cameras roll out

South Australia has officially rolled out a number of Mobile Phone Detection Cameras. Here is what you need to know about the new tech:

There is currently a three-month grace period running from 19 June 2024 to 19 September 2024. During this time, Cameras will be functional, but will not issue fines or demerit points, drivers will still be issued with a warning letter.

From 19 September 2024, SA Police will issue Expiation Notices to drivers caught illegally using their phones. Currently the phone is $540.00 plus a $99.00 victims of crime levy and three demerit points.

There are currently five mobile phone detection camera sites across Adelaide: South Road, Torrensville; North South Motorway, Regency Park; Port Wakefield Road, Gepps Cross; Southern Expressway, Darlington and Port Road, Hindmarsh.

The current sites will be getting a signage upgrade similar to the current fixed camera signs to notify drivers of the mobile phone detection cameras.

Full Licence holders wishing to make or receive a phone call, including dialling numbers need to ensure the phone is secure in a commercially designed and made phone holder. Learner Drivers and P1 drivers cannot use any phone function while driving.

Mobile Phone use includes: Making phone calls, scrolling for music, Social Media, using maps, texting or any other function on your device.
